The Grannies’ club is a social network and support system for Grannies who are caring for grandchildren whose parents have died of AIDS. They meet once or twice a month, sing songs, share stories and empower one another to deal with the challenges of raising young children, many HIV infected. The Grannies are candid and often outspoken in sharing their experiences of HIV/AIDS, not only with each other, but also with their families and others in their communities. Thus, they are respected and very effective voices in combating stigma and discrimination associated with HIV.
